Our general meeting was a special format intended for the general public, consisting of a series of presentations explaining the "Linux and Open Source Movement," and how it can benefit someone in business and educational settings.

Mike Thorpe and Deid Reimer, Matthew Skala and Chris Halsall all made separate presentations, and then hands-on activities with several computers began.

Quite successful, we had a total turn-out of 40 people, at least a half dozen of which were newcomers. We will be using this as a basis for additional presentations in the future.

1998/05/12
Deid Reimer, Ron Randall and Chris Halsall were all speakers on a panel at 12th Annual Canadian Internet Conference (Net '98) dealing with NT vs. Linux in the ISP setting.

While the three of us were quite civil, the audience were very unkind to Microsoft!

CaroLyn Schneider and Chris Halsall were guests on CFAX's "Online - The Computer Information Show" today promoting the VLUG Install-Fest. Thanks to Al Thain.

The Promotions Committee had a good meeting down at Cyberstation this morning. As part of the meeting, brochure distribution was a topic. Now online is a brochure distribution support system to help with the co-ordination of this work.

Please have a look at the public view of current brochure locations, and be sure to let us know if you have any further suggestions.

Also, Chris Maclean has put together a page about our new server. Check out the Ladybug Server Page.

Had our monthly general meeting, the first up at our new location, UVic. As usual, we had a strong turnout. We're going to locate a larger room for next months meeting. Minutes should be online soon; they have been posted to the list already.

We have a bylaws committee underway. If you're interested in helping please join the list.

VLUG now owns VLUG.ORG The Web committee found typing "linux.victoria.bc.ca" to be too much to do too often...
