Announcements

  • References were made to the upcoming and anticipated Matrox 3D card.
  • Comments noted re SUN's improving posture re Linux.
  • M$ active re School audits in the US. Bully for all ...
  • More dubious slime offered by Verisign. Unsolicited commercial mail telling you to renew your Domain Registration thru them. In most cases, ignore this spam.

Monthly General Meeting

Alan Irwin started the presentation with an overview of an X-windows set-up across 2 machines.

  • Slow machine was a Pentium 133 w/ 64 Megs of ram. Recommends a 100 base-T ethernet card. Some audience members felt 10 base-T would also work.
  • Requires a HD on the client machine. Recommended 1Gig.
  • LTSP Project mentioned. City of Largo mentioned, utilizing a large LAN of X-terminals, and saving the city a huge whack 'a dough.

3 Strategies are used:

  1. Floppy based.
  2. Hard Drive on slow machine
  3. E-prom on NIC card on slow machine.

Carl Constantine then carried on with a look at the gruesome details, including configuration.

Meeting was well attended & presentation well received w/ good applause at close.
Some females grew faint. 36" tall VLUG Mascot TUX the Penquin was heard to remark, " ... well done all ... ".
Note: Please refrain from using powered or manual nail clippers and other personal grooming devices during the presentation... you know who I mean ;-)

Meeting Adjourned to Boston Pizza for that and libations.
