Announcements

Carl "Captain Meeting" Constantine welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced Andrew Willard, who plugged the club's merchandise. The big news this month was the VLUG T-shirts, with "Got Linux?" on the front and Flying Jet-Pack Tux on the back, a steal at $20 apiece. Also available were the usual CDs of all the latest distributions.

CaroLyn Schneider announced that UVic was looking for an experienced Linux systems administrator; she didn't have a lot more detail on the job than that, but urged anyone interested to email her and she'd forward it to the appropriate people. Matthew Skala did a quick count of how many members and visitors were present.

Carl announced a few items of Linux news: the merger of Andover and VA Linux, and "Linux One had the absolute gall to show up at LinuxWorld Expo". If you can imagine. Randy Esdon announced our membership discounts and benefits, with an attractive overhead slide of all our sponsors' logos.

Carl mentioned that the latest BB&C newsletter was featuring Linux, and there were a few copies available at the front. Then without further ado he introduced the evening's presentors.
