Prior to the meeting start, twenty-seven people signed up for VLUG membership.
Membership is still available to those who are interested in being 'full' members.
Membership allows people the right to vote, a membership card which will get you
great discounts on Monks merchandise, in addition to prestige and great honour,
and
the right to run for a position on the Board of Directors - there may be future
members
only benefits/features but that's all for now. Non-members are, of course, still
welcome at meetings, InstallFests and other VLUG activities.
Elections/Acclamations:
Mike Thorpe facilitated/MCd the process and asked that anyone interested in
being
VLUG President, come forward now, three times as instructed.
Chris Halsall was acclaimed as President.
Mike asked, three times, that anyone interested in being VLUG Vice-President, come
forward now.
Andrew Willard was acclaimed as Vice-President.
Mike asked, three times, that anyone interested in being VLUG Secretary, come
forward now.
Matthew Skala was acclaimed as Secretary.
Mike asked, three times, that anyone interested in being VLUG Treasurer, come
forward now.
Tom McVeigh had initially offered his services as Treasurer but stepped aside when
Oliver MacDonald was nominated.

Mike asked, three times, that anyone interested in being VLUG Membership Director,
come forward now.
CaroLyn Schneider was acclaimed as Membership Director.
General discussion about bylaws, process and membership fees ensued.
Deid hosted a discussion about InstallFest procedure and our hopes/expectations
of
InstallFest participants. Highlights:
- need as many people as possible to show up to help do installs, carry stuff,
etc
on Saturday. Please show up by 9:30!
- participants /must/ back up any important data
- participants should bring their entire computer, including manuals, power
cords,
small bits like modems, keyboards, mice, and any installation disks for any
hardware,
even if it's for dos
- People who are willing to volunteer time/talent/stuff should sign up on
Mike's
Volunter site, vlug.monk.ca
- Gordon McCague and UVic Computing User Services will be providing all kinds
of
neat stuff, including CD-ROM drives, NICs, software, the room, connectivity.
- MacLean will be bringing some kind of server
There was other discussion but as it may be my last stint taking minutes, I was
slacking off. Sorry to those who couldn't make it.
Next meeting will be on the fourth Tuesday of October, which is
going to be October 27, 1998.
