Install Fest:

8 and 3/4 machines were done - Steve still working on George's

We ran out of time - must schedule more strictly in the future perhaps set a time that people must show up with their machines

Roles to be set - kernel and hardware experts should be delineated as resource people so we don't have people getting stuck on stuff that we have talent for within the group.
Perhaps we should have roaming talent?

Should have presentations or something for people who didn't bring machines. Gerald had prepared a presentation for new users on moving from DOS to Linux but we hadn't scheduled a time for him to do it.

We have the ability to book room(s) at UVic for future install fests - access to UVic computer labs, 486s for folks w/out machines to play with.

Frequency? Every 2 or 3 months. Next install fest: April 19th

Some folks may be reluctant to move their machines - we should consider home/office visits as a component of the install fest or VLUG community services in general

Should define amount of installation that we are doing - setting up a box for a user at home is different from helping set up a commercial do everything machine.

Chris Halsall is 'point man' for future install fests. Will be striking a committee to plan.

CDs:

MacLean and Andrew Willard are taking orders - ready by the end of the week.

Nametags:

Andrew is making pretty colour nametags for members - asking $1 Will have name, distribution, email address, specialty, whatever else we like. Apparently has a magical printer which will print animated gifs.

Free Stuff:

Scott got a bunch of shirts, cds and mouse pads from Red Hat, waiting on stuff from SuSE.

Discussed raffling off items, giving them away to install fest visitors. (no decision on this was made that I can recollect)

Brochures:

Will be another printing - need to have another meeting to followup at the locations previously visited

Misc:

CompuCentre may have discounts available to members - Scott

Need to book larger facilities for next meeting - Gord booking a room at UVic

Should start advertising meetings, install fests on other relevant lists, newsgroups and newspapers.

CaroLyn is taking minutes and plans to post to the list shortly (big plans). Will also be coordinating various promotional activities.

Broke for newbie time and went for beer shortly thereafter.

Comments welcome as I can't write everything down. Email 'em to CaroLyn Schneider
