Please also note, that if you are going to be attending the 'fest, and wish to
have Linux installed/reconfigured/updated, you will have to bring all of your
own hardware.
e.g.:
- Computer CPU unit. AKA tower, desktop case.
- Mouse
- Monitor
- Ethernet cable for network access (important)
- Any external devices. e.g. modem, scanner, joystick.
- Power cords and any required cables
- Keyboard
- And spec sheets for your various hardware.
Also please note the following: For a complete install of Linux with the X
Window GUI, you will need at LEAST 150 Megabytes of free disk
space. The lowest hardware requirements for a basic Linux install
are as follows:
- 486 or better CPU
- 8 Megs of RAM
- 100 MB of Hard Drive Space, 150 if you want the X Windowing System installed.
Note: Much more is prefered. A 1 GB partition for Linux is
prefered.
- You must also have: either a cdrom/dvd drive or a network
card (compatible with Linux) installed in the machine with which we can use to install
the operating system with.
Please also note: to save time during the install, please be sure to
defragment your harddrive no more than a day before the InstallFest
if you are planning to dual boot your computer.
