This month's meeting of the VLUG telephony SIG will be:

Date: Thursday April 29, 2004 (today!)
Time: 7pm
Location: #1-235 Cook St (corner of Cook and Chapman)
Directions: If you are heading down Cook St towards the Dallas
waterfront I am on the same side as and just past Beagle Pub, Oxford
Foods and Rosie's Diner at the corner of Cook and Chapman. Buzzer #1 is
labelled "A Randell".

Agenda:
- need to assess where people are at and what the next step is. Do you
all have Asterisk setup and running / stuck on compile errors / afraid
to ask the list / too busy, etc.

News:
- it seems that neither PrimusTel nor Vonage.ca are jumping to offer us
DIDs for Victoria without bundled services. This is no suprise, since
there's little money to be made in it for them!
If I get a service for Victoria I may be willing to buy a small number
of DIDs for others for telephony testing provided they _pay_me_ the
requisite fees (~ CAD$8/mo).
- I recently disproved one of the fundamental theorems of our time by
counterexample. I argue the idea that 100 monkeys could write
Shakespeare is flawed. I have spent
an infinite amount of time talking to at least a hundred minimum wage
support phone workers at Vonage.ca . I am 95% confident that they
collectively
would never be able to spell telephony backwards let alone produce
Will's great works.. (Perhaps one of my unstated base assumptions is
flawed..?)

I look forward to seeing you all tonight!

Cheers,
Alex
