I don't know much about Mandrake, but here is what you can do to get
xawtv up and running for you:
open a term, make sure you are in your home directory and run this:
scantv -o .xawtv
It should ask you for your frequency table (usually us-cable) and also
ask you to choose NTSC, then it will scan the channels and write the
.xawtv file to your home directory. Then, when you open xawtv it will
source that file and you should have access to all of your stations.
