Which model of Linksys router?

I find it hard to believe that Linksys is somehow preventing other OS's
from configuring this device.

Hmmm.... first ensure that your Linux box is setup correctly.

Run /usr/sbin/drakconnect and follow the instructions. Once the software
has detected your nic choose "LAN connection" and then on the next page
choose "Automatic IP". This should configure the card correctly and allow
you to lease an IP from the router. To check if you are setup and
connected
run the following command (as root) 'ifconfig eth0' and send us the
results
of the output.

We will have to assume that you have your ethernet device configured
correctly
and have it set for DHCP?? It sounds like either the ethernet card is not
initialized, the ethernet cable is bunk or your not setup for DHCP which
the
router should be setup for as the default out-of-the-box.
