[newbie] problems using 'apt-get source'

Hello all,

I am trying out Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net/) which is based on Debian
and I am having some problems installing using apt-get using the source
command. The download works fine and the compile works BUT it only compiles
a secondary package not the main package. The package in question is i2c. I
want to install this package so that I can use lm-sensors and other related
tools. Most of my installation is from the stable tree (as far as I know)
but at console login, the screen shows testing/unstable. My sources.list is
only configured for stable and testing. Could it be that the package is
part of the unstable tree and as such will not be installed? I see that
there is a new release of Knoppix, but I'd rather get my current install
fixed than to burn a new disc (this time I'll use a CD-RW) and re-install.

Thanks in advanced.

Sincerely,
