Roscoe,
I'm by no means an expert. Here's what I would check:
> I have the cd in the tray ready to go
> and I type the command into the shell but nothing happens. Where am I going
> wrong?
-what error message do you get when you type that command?
-The CD is in the drive, but is the drive mounted? If there is no graphical
way to do that on your Mandrake 9.0 setup you can type 'mount /dev/cdrom' at
the prompt. That should work for most systems.
-If the drive is mounted, you might have to find the directory that contains
the 'hcfpcimodem-2.4.18-6mdk.i685.rpm' file. Often the CD-ROM will be
mounted on the directory /mnt/cdrom. Once you locate it, you can specify the
full path to rpm like so: "rpm -i
/mnt/cdrom/your/directory/here/hcfpcimodem-2.4.18-6mdk.i685.rpm"
I'm afraid I haven't used Mandrake in awhile so I might be missing an easier
way to go about this. Anyone else please advise.
Cheers,
-Antony
