Progress so far

Called Lenovo support line: 1800-565-3344. Got through to technical
support, so obviously he couldn't help. Was transferred to Nate (no
last name given), sales rep for Canada who reiterated "Lenovo does not
provide refunds or credits for portions of a packaged offering
provided at a single price or for preloaded programs installed by
Lenovo." (I received that in response to my initial email to Lenovo
and haven't heard back form them since by email. So, I called...)
Asked to be transferred to someone in a supervisory role and was
transferred to Anne, a team lead. She said she was "not sure" why
there was a discrepancy between the corporate policy (Lenovo does not
provide refunds or credits for portions of a packaged offering
provided at a single price or for preloaded programs installed by
Lenovo.) and the license agreement ("By using this software, you
accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the
software. Instead, contact the manufacturer or installer to determine
their return policy for a refund of credit" -- Note that there is no
"Do not accept" option on the license screen, only "I accept the
license terms" and a Next button), so I asked to be transferred to
someone who would be sure. She put me on hold, and promised to file a
customer complaint and that I would receive a callback from a customer
representative. She also gave me corporate address of the legal dept
for small claims court proceedings. But that's all so far.

I don't get why they would put a legal license on the machine with not
only nothing in place to back it up but a corporate policy that
directly contravenes the license. Although I've noticed a subtle
shifting of the phrasing over the years: now it says "contact the
manufacturer or installer to determine their *return policy* for a
refund of credit"
