OK; which driver are you using? There is both a 'radeonhd' driver and 
afaik a 'radeon' driver for that chip. If you're using one of those, try 
the other. Also I think ATI has proprietary drivers too; you could also 
try those.

All of these drivers are under active development; so you should try the 
latest version for all of those (where 'latest' means 'nightly build').
