My modem was "free" and does not have a button, but when I purchased it,
my monthly bill went down (mind you, it keeps on creeping up again).
For Windows, have you tried Google Suite? It is free and includes
Norton Security Scan. This detects and removes new viruses (as well as
spyware), however, it will not remove old ones so before installing it
you have to use AVG or AVAST! to make sure the system is clean. Google
Suite also includes Star Office, plus other "goodies".
If I did not want to pull the Ethernet connector (which I have never
done anyway), I would just unplug the power.
