[Discuss] Another happy convert

Hi all. :-)

A while ago, I mentioned a friend whose copy of Win ME was going
blitterless [*], as well as efforts to copy her favourite files
off it before the thing suffered a total breakdown. Said efforts
involved booting Linux CDs mostly, because her usual OS wouldn't
even recognize the mouse.

That went pretty well.

Later efforts, to make her freshly installed [!!!] edition of
Pure Evil 2000, Service Pack 3 behave in a semi-coherent
fashion... did not go so well. Attempts to install OpenOffice
on it did not go so well either.

What a week. She was, understandably, a little pissed-off about
all this.

Anyway, to cut a long story short [or is it too late for that
now?] she's running Xubuntu 7.10, and seems to like it pretty
well so far. Said it's easier to use, even.

And I got a really nice hug out of the deal. :-)

Thanks Linus,

Patrick.

PS:	What a week [yes I already said that. So what?].
Sorry Alan, Barbara, Larry. I should be less distracted
now, with all that behind me.

Oh... who am I kidding? I'll probably still be
distracted, but more happily so. Thank you for your
	patience.

PPS:	I was surprised to note that Gnumeric handles Excel
spreadsheets just fine, thank you very much. Hadn't
messed with MS files much myself, or looked for ways to
do it, or needed to, but that was good news. OpenOffice
is probably still a good idea, though.

the chair's owner that the whole piece of furniture is
about to uncoil terribly and slowly until it resembles a
	giant pencil sharpening.
