I switched to Primus Canada about 3 years ago. I didn't port my number
over, though it was an option at the time.

Quality is hit and miss -- it can be good, but often it's choppy for the
people I'm talking to (but rarely for me).

I'm on Shaw Cable for internet. There has been some discussion of Shaw
sabotaging non-Shaw voip solutions on their network -- and Shaw itself
isn't too reliable to start with in terms of packet delivery times.

There is also the problem of Primus being an Ontario-based company -- so
the packets end up being routed a lot further than they would if I chose
a more local provider.

Their customer service has been reasonable.

The cost: $30/mo for all the calling features I could hope for, voip
gateway rental, unlimited long distance in US and Canada, etc.

I know there are better (and more local) options now, but simple inertia
keeps me where I am.

David
