I suspect that this loading issue is related to laptops having a
different bios setting or something like that which recognizes the disc
in a different way than the desktop. I found that I could load the
Knoppix DVD on both XP and a borrowed Vista laptop but not on my Vista
desktop.
Neither Knoppix.iso DVD or CD discs would boot on the Vista desktop.
From your response I presume that you can read/write to NTFS from
Kubuntu 7.10. I was not able to mount the NTFS partitions from Kubuntu,
('permission denied' .. or 'could not identify file system' ..something
like that). Am I missing something there? Does Kubuntu have the
utilities to read NTFS? I had presumed that the European based Linux
flavours were a little less feared of Microsoft, and therefore were
willing to incorporate NTFS utilities. If you have Kubuntu read/writing
NTFS, can you give me a pointer as to how it can be set up (Kubuntu is
recognized on my desktop and loads without problem, and since I don't
have a RAID array, Kubuntu would be fine for my purposes).
Thanks,
Stan Fisher
