First, make sure you are using the Knoppix DVD (not the CD -- that
didn't work very well for me).
I had no trouble loading the Knoppix DVD on my laptop running VISTA, so
I don't think the OS is the problem. I could NOT load it onto my desktop
running XP. It got as far as trying to detect the video card then died
with a blank screen. However, I CAN load the Kubuntu 7.10 DVD on both
computers, and I have no problem mounting the standard Windows NTFS
partitions on both machines. However, I have not figured out how to
access the Windows RAID drives on the XP machine from Kubuntu, or even
if it is possible.
Kubuntu loads a lot more slowly than Knoppix. However, it does a better
job of detecting my hardware on both computers (e.g. sound card,
wireless card on the laptop). I have not been able to figure out how to
get the wireless card working on the laptop -- I am sure it is just
something I don't understand about how to do it.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Murray
