Sorry to hear about the brick. I installed "Feisty Fawn" on my Compaq
laptop with no problems at all. Then (of course, I'm never satisfied!) I
tried to get the upgrade to "Gutsy Gibbon", but because the download was
very slow and irregular (a bit odd for Shaw, btw, but it lasted the
better part of a week!) the os refused to try any more, and the only
option to me was a new clean install (I downloaded the new iso with no
problems. But I have been plagued with several minor glitches; It has
trouble with one file that seems to be frequently used (forget its name)
and the Compiz nicely lost my desktop so now I have to find the file in
the taskbar underneath (otherwise OK, runs well otherwise. Had fun
getting music codecs loaded so that I could listen to my favourite radio
station, KING-FM in Seattle. Finally got Streamtuner working and no more
problems there. Still can't get the sync program for the Palm Zire I
have so have let it go. I would give the Gutsy Gibbon a C-, Feisty Fawn,
on the other hand got an A- (just a few steps away from perfection. Long
live Ubuntu!
old railfans never die; they just lose track!
