I really doubt that it is a video driver problem. My card is recognized
correctly and everything else related to it seems to work fine with one
minor exception:

I use the same monitor on both my LINUX computer and my Windows system
(using a KVM switch). If the width is set correctly for KUbuntu (using
the monitor menu), it is a bit too wide for the Windows.

If it were just an video problem, I don't think it would just
immediately hang when using the KDE menu and restart while working
properly using reboot from a terminal window. In the log, I don't see
too much that looks abnormal there is this warning:

WARNING: Using the Hotkey might freeze your machine, regardless
(II) SIS(0): whether enabled or disabled. This is no driver bug.

There are a couple of things about vsync being out of range.

I think that there must be something, probably in /etc, related to
rebooting that is not quite correct, but I have no idea as to what that
might be.

It is really not such a big deal if I have to reboot or halt from a
terminal, but it should not be necessary.
