You can use the package "alien" to convert the rpm to deb.  Use at
your own risk.  In the past its made some pretty crappy packages for
me.

For acroread specifically, you can dowload the version from edgy and
it will work for you: http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/text/acroread
