[Discuss] devfs in kernel source tree - 2.6.15

Correct. udev is the thing to use now and devfs was removed from the
kernel config quite a long time ago (probably about 2 years ago they
started phasing it out and by last year it was gone). I seem to recall
reading an article on kerneltrap.org a few years ago which described how
a very small devfs implementation still existed in the kernel for those
people who were _extremely_ determined to resist udev. That's probably
the thing you're describing and, as I recall, you have to enable it
manually, it won't show up in the menuconfigs.
