Deryk,

I purchased and installed one of the ReadyNAS NV+ units for a client
and she is really happy with it. The units are rich with features
and robust as well. The RAID system all happens transparently. I
believe it defaults to different RAID levels based on the number of
populated drive bays it detects on the initial bootup. Otherwise
you can configure it the way you want via the webgui and the system
does the rest. I have also played with FreeNAS which also has some
great features. It is based on FreeBSD and can be easily installed
on a vanilla x86 system (and is free). If it is strictly for
yourself you may want to check that out as well (http://
www.freenas.org).
