[Discuss] Kubuntu on USB Drive

As an experiment, I installed Kubuntu on a 8GB USB flash drive. It mostly works OK, but is a bit slow. However, there are two things I have not been able to get right:

1. I cannot mount the Windows (Vista) hard drives in anything except read-only. Is there a way to do this or is Kubuntu simply unable to write in the correct format for that file system?

2. I would like to change the boot order to set Windows as the default. I tried to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file by cutting the Windows section from the end and placing it before the LINUX section but that did not work -- the LINUX loads OK, but the Windows (which does appear as the default and tries to start) does not. I forget the exact error. Obviously I goofed somehow. I also tried something called "grubmenu" that is written in Python and is supposed to work. However, it failed because of pygtk not found. I looked with Adept for pygtk, and didn't find it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Murray
