Very true. Now that the iTunes Store has "iTunes Plus", owners of music
can now upgrade to the DRM free versions (provided they exist). Not only
is the file DRM free, it is also a higher bitrate.

Yes, the DRM songs (and the default settings) use AAC, which is
technically MP4. Simply put it is the successor to MP3. AAC = Advanced
Audio Codec. The advantage is higher bitrate in a smaller file size. I'm
still hoping they will add an opensource lossless format, but that seems
slim at this stage.
The funny thing is, my recent batch of CD imports was all done in MP3,
even though I really, really need to conserve HD space (which means I
should have used AAC). :S
