I just wanted to see what people were using.

Since my post, I had a look at some of the wikipedia articles on RSS and
atom. It sounds like the many (!) RSS versions are not really standards
while atom 1.0 is a recognized IETF standard. That plus some simple
examples of atom feeds (plus some of the commentary about the RSS wars
between certain individuals) tipped the balance for me. Therefore, I have
chosen to use the atom 1.0 standard in the new incarnations of Barbara's web
feeds, and it turns out it is pretty easy to conform to that standard
according to web-feed validator that I am using. Also, akregator has
no problem accessing the new form of the feeds.

I have frozen the old feeds now with a message to suscribe to
http://loll.sourceforge.net/linux/links/highlights.atom and
http://loll.sourceforge.net/linux/links/loll.atom (for those on this list
who are following Barbara's Linux highlights or the recently added links for
Loads of Linux Links).
