I'm not sure what you mean by mix and match.  If you mean you're
installing packages from different versions, you definitely don't want
to to that, unless you know what you're doing.

Note that different flavours/configurations can be mixed.  For example
kubuntu is just a different package set than ubuntu.  However feisty
and gutsy (or a version of debian, or xandros, or etc) shouldn't be
mixed.   Looking at wikipedia, mint linux is just a different
configuration of ubuntu, like kubuntu.  So if you only mix with gutsy
packages, you're ok.
