I only tried other repositories AFTER nothing worked from medibuntu. I have 
"non-free-codecs" installed from there but they don't include the ones I am looking for:  WVP2

More importantly,  I think that after all my messing around with the repositories, I may not have everything that I should.  I am not sure how to check this (I can see what is there, but I don't know how to find what should be there and what are available optionally).
