Basically, you need to know the chipset. I don't know which specific
kernel 2007.1 is using, but these are generally working bits:

Atheros - most work with the binary hal, although some of the very
newest don't (Asus EEE has one of these)
Broadcom - again, most work. They need firmware but the driver is there
Intel - some of these also require firmware, but again, the driver is
in the kernel

Older stuff:
Prism is one of the best supported but cannot be bought new, afaik.

Now this is talking about chipsets, not the end user name on the
cards. You need to find a place that matches chipsets to
manufacturers. And be warned, manufacturers like to change out the
chipset without telling anybody.
