[Discuss] Shaw vs Linux.

Hello Vlug.

Never posted before but I am stumped. My name is Michael Leamy & I am a
desktop user of Linux ... currently Mandriva 2006 Free ... and up until
recently I have had no troubles. I am looking for advise on my network,
which recently has become quite flaky, disconnecting after about five
minutes for seemingly no reason. Oddly enough while torrenting various
distros I noticed that the network remains quite functional, right up
until the download is finished and I end the torrent. Enquiries with
Shaw made me aware that my problem started right after they apparently
did a firmware update to their modems, and I suspect if that's true then
the problem is in there somewhere.

First, has anyone else had trouble with Shaw that sounds similar, and if
not would anyone be willing to offer a direction for me to Google? I
realize that I haven't given much information, but so far I haven't got
much to go on. Just so everyone knows I have tried resetting Mandriva's
Shorewall to greater and lesser levels of paranoia, including wide open,
all with no effect. As well, My wife's Windows machine hasn't been
affected, which makes me suspect this might be quite deliberate.
