The documentation seemed to indicate that using
mdadm to monitor may not be the best solution.
I'm not exactly sure how mature mdadm is. There
doesn't appear to be any indication, other than 
a version number which could mean anything.

As far as I know raidtools is more mature, but
no monitoring daemon is available with that package.

I used raidtools to build the sets.
