At 05:35 PM 5/6/2006, Daniel M. German, had this to say :

>My Powermac G5 annoys me. I wish I could silence it :(

It can be done. Build a "quite" box for it and simply hook
up an external DVD burner. Then the only thing you need to access on
the computer itself is the power and reset buttons. Of course you do
need to make sure air can flow in and out still, but by building a
"box" with sound dampening features, you should be able to reduce the
noise to an acceptable level.

Another factor of noise is direction. My mid tower use to be
under a table with the PS fan blowing to the back. I barely ever
heard a sound out of it. Now though, this new desk is shaped
differently and I have to have the mid tower facing sideways which
has the PS fan blowing towards a wall less than 4 feet away. This
direction causes the sound to "appear" louder given that where I sit
has my ear pointed at that wall.
