[Discuss] trying to get quotes on a server.....

While we're having people mention NCIX, I (and I think at least one
other person on the list) can get better prices than they list on their
site, via their pay-per-year membership thing. Depending how much stuff
you order, it may be worth your while to get your own, or I can split
the discount (it's usually about another 10%, so if you're ordering say,
a $2000 server, you have another $100 in your pocket, probably). Let me
know if you want some prices on stuff. For example, I think 250GB
drives are now *under* $100 apiece. (Compare to local prices. Laugh.)
As far as hardware recommendations, I have all but given up on desktop
hardware, so as far as servers, I am leaning into companies like
Supermicro right now (I just purchased a board from them, should be
getting drop-shipped sometime soon). Hard drives are a crapshoot, which
is even more fun... If you've got some specific questions, I'd be happy
to field them. Hardware's a minefield these days =(
