Message to Coirey Burger and other Ubunto 6.06 fans:

With regrets, I missed Corey's party about Ubunto 6.06 on Saturday Le
June 3, but am very interested in that distro. I also would need some
advice.

I am a regula Mandriva 2006 user and have a very powerful machine (dual
CPU 3800 GHz, trwo HD Western Digital respectively /dev/hada 160 GB
and /dev/hdb 120 GB, 1/ GB RAm,etc.

I want to try Fedora core 5 and Ubuntu 6.06.

I downloaded Ubunto 6.06 and installed it on hda with /boot (74 MB), /
(5GB), /tmp (1GB) and /var (1.5 GB), on the free space beyond my
Mandriva and Fedora operating systems. I did not mount those operating
systems at all on Ubunto (of couse) I created /home on a primary
partition /dev/hdb3 on my second HD. and mounted with their contents,
the /homes of Mandriva and fedora with a name specifying they were homes
of different distros, plus a few other common partitions containing
data, website, backups, downloads,)

Installing Ubunto was an easy task, except that an no point in the
process did the installation DVD ask me to state my /root password.

Then, when trying to customize the distro to my tastes adn add programs,
at some point, the screen blacked out and a while label came out with in
red letter “UNPUT NOT SUPPORTED“

The machine froze and I had to switch of an restrart again. That time in
Mandriva to do my current work.

I re-installed several times, always with the same problems: no question
asking me my /root passwordanbd the freezing while customizing.

Any advice?

Thanks

Yves Bajrd
