Summer greetings _again_ to all:
I couldn't let this thread fade without commenting.
I remember the good old days, before the turn of the last century, when I got
my start in Linux. (Emerged from a twenty year stint of providing for my
wife & 5 children via divorse). I spent about 3 months in Windows98 with my
first "new" computer since the Commodore 64 days. Someone in VLUG peaked my
curiosity when I asked: "What's Linux" at a Cedar Hill Rec Computer show....
....anywhoo.... Posting my newbie questions to VLUG, I got my fair share of
abuse. It hurt, but it started me actually taking some time to research
stuff before posting.
It's good to see the interest in bumping the kindness quotient up a notch with
this effort....not that I agree that kicking someone off the list is the best
way to deal with this...
Lets all get along OK? Linux is now actually beginning to make it to the
desktop. More kindness is always appreciated. Can you imagine how many
newbies we're gonna have in a few years? My motto is, if you don't have
anything nice or helpful to say, don't say anything. If someone's rude, it
hurts, but you learn to compensate many ways, one of which is to choose the
higher path and not take it personally. Ultimately, if someone is rude, they
are just reflecting aspects of their own inner life. Seeing it that way,
it's easy to let our personal reactions go.
Still, some of the rudeness does make for some interesting reading, as long as
it's not directed at me........;^)
