Hi Dave,
I've set up RAID and LVM on Linux before, but since then I've fallen in
love with hardware. Check this out:

It's a hot-swappable IDE RAID unit that looks just like a single IDE
drive. It's great for backups. Just turn the key and pull the drive
and you have a complete ready-to-run backup of your disk. They were
about $500 last time I checked. Synetic is a local company on Bay St by
the Pt. Ellice Bridge.
